![]() ![]() By the way, you aren't limited to a single library per team, you can create as many as needed.ĭLs can be synced locally with the OneDrive client, but here is where the trouble starts for the OPs situation. when you upload a file to Teams you are just using that library. Each channel in the team gets its own folder within the DL. When you create a team within Teams it includes a default document library, which is how SharePoint stores and shares files. To make this clear, Teams uses Office 365 Groups which in turn contain a special type of SharePoint team site. ![]() So when you're adding your file to Teams, are you actually just sending a link to the file that is stored on a local server? Teams is not a storage solution so I am confused about the process you're explaining. If they are relative paths you should be fine. If your files and applications use absolute paths for references you are going to have issues. This helps a lot with large files since you only sync the changes (or "deltas") when a file is modified, rather than the whole thing. ![]() Microsoft recently finished rolling out differential syncing for non Office files (which had it years ago). SharePoint has its roots as a document management system, not strictly file sharing. All the technical limitations of document libraries apply. While I do advocate the use of Teams, you have to understand that a bunch of it is SharePoint Online behind the scenes. SharePoint can be setup through Teams and info, files and what not can be accessed that way as well. Not sure if this will work for your specific needs but I thought I would throw it out there. You can actually leave the files on the server where they are, you can post your files in the Team and it is more like a link that can be opened from there. Someone on here I am sure knows better than I do but I have used teams for a couple of large projects and file sharing is very easy to do. I know you were asking about SharePoint but I think Teams might work better for you. We are looking at this as an alternative to using Google Drive and we need to figure out what about our process will and will not work. Please let me know if I can explain further. Are there still file-path length limitations as in file explorer or can we change the way these paths are listed? Lastly, we have noticed that Sharepoint file paths are set by default, however it adds a lot of uneccasry characters for our use. If the source files are stored in sharepoint, how do applications handle using those documents? Will the links still work or will we need to change that proces? Since sharepoint doesn't use these paths, how are files shared and accessed?Ī lot of the files that are used reference other data files for plotting and stuff. We share files via file path (G:\shared drive\project\project id\file) so users can just copy and paste the path into file explorer and get the file/folder location. We have a lot of design users that use large Civil3D files and Revu pdfs. We're currently using Google Shared drive for users to share project file folders. Hey Spice peeps, I have a few questions about sharepoint/one drive for use with AutoCAD C3D and other design program files. ![]()
